Quad9 and CSC Announce Strategic Partnership to Strengthen Cybersecurity in Finland

We’re excited to announce a new partnership between Quad9 and CSC – IT Center for Science, responsible for Funet, the Finnish Research and Education Network. This collaboration brings enhanced cyber security protections to higher education and research institutions across Finland, as well as to the broader public that relies on trusted DNS infrastructure.
Funet plays a vital role in Finland’s digital infrastructure, providing high-speed data connections and sophisticated network services to universities, research institutes, and other academic organizations. By partnering with Quad9, CSC is expanding its security offerings with a globally distributed DNS-based threat blocking service that prioritizes user privacy and improves resilience against cyber threats.
“It is important for CSC to be part of this international network that enables a distributed and reliable system like Quad9,” said Mr. Juha Oinonen, Director of Funet. “The service brings a new layer of defence to its users, allowing them to prevent dangerous and harmful content without adding expensive components or services. The importance of several different security solutions is highlighted in an ever-changing operating environment where cyber criminals are developing their own capabilities.”
Through this partnership, Quad9’s threat-blocking DNS resolver will be integrated into Funet network, providing users with real-time protection against malware, phishing, and other malicious domains—without compromising privacy. This aligns with both organizations’ missions to foster a secure and open Internet for research, education, and public benefit.
“Funet’s addition to the Quad9 community represents a valuable expansion of our efforts to strengthen DNS protections based on privacy, security, and integrity. We’re excited about the impact this partnership will have for users across Finland,” said Mr. Simon Forster, General Manager of Quad9.
This partnership marks another step forward in building a more robust and privacy-centric Internet infrastructure in Europe. Together, Quad9 and CSC are working to ensure that Finnish institutions and users have access to state-of-the-art DNS security, backed by a globally distributed system built on transparency and trust.
